Easy Home Remedies For Cold & Flu Season
Feel like you’re catching a cold, and can’t get in to see the acupuncturist right away? While I have many herbs and acupuncture treatments that will work powerfully to kick that cold out of your system, here are a few home remedies that may help to calm down the flu until you can get in for a full treatment:
Sore Throat and Cough Protection:
Slice up 1-2 Pears (Asian Pears work best, but bartletts will do just fine)
mix with a few slices of fresh ginger
steam the fruit for 5-10 minutes
mix with 1 tablespoon of honey (and take out any large chunks of ginger)
Eat the fruit 2-3 times per day to improve throat and lung health
Common Cold Relief:
Symptoms including: itchy throat, body chills (more chills than a fever, not much sweating), body aches/headaches, thin/watery clear mucus, runny nose, sneezing
3 tablespoons of cinnamon
1 piece of green onion/scallion/spring onion (chopped)
3 slices of licorice root (dried)
3-5 slices of fresh ginger
simmer all the ingredients in 2 1/2 cups of water for about 20 minutes.
Strain, and drink the liquid as tea.
I teaspoon of honey may be added for flavor
